Emil Filipov has recently obtained his PhD at the laboratory of “Femtosecond Optics”, Institute of Electronics, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He has obtained a BSc degree in “Medical Biochemistry” at Swansea University, UK, and his MSc degree in “Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine" at UAS Vienna, Austria. During his experience as part of the FemtoScience Application Group Emil has gained experience in developing surface patterns on biomaterials by femtosecond laser modifications for application in tissue engineering. He has done research on biomaterial development as well as on controlling human cell and bacterial migration and proliferation by inducing various surface patterns. His areas of interest are including tissue engineering and the interaction between cells and biomaterials.
