Research and professional experience
Dr. Poornima Budime Santhosh is an Associate Professor at the Laboratory of Femtosecond Optics, Institute of Electronics, BAS, since 2025. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2015. She subsequently received national postdoctoral fellowships from the Indian Institute of Science, the Indian Institute of Technology, and Peter Beron Fellowship from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Her expertise includes analyzing the interaction of nanomaterials with biological membranes, laser-induced photochemotherapy for cancer treatment, and the development of novel lipid-based nanocarriers for drug delivery. She has authored numerous publications in high-impact international journals and contributed book chapters in the field of nanobiotechnology. Her current research interests focus on developing 3D-printed biomaterials for tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and implant surface functionalization.
Interests: Nanobiotechnology, biomimetic lipid systems, drug delivery, femtosecond laser processing, and 3D printing of biomaterials.
