Research and professional experience
Ivan Georgiev is a multidisciplinary professional with a strong academic and applied background. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Medical Radiation Physics and Engineering. In addition to managing medical centers and a pharmacy, he is actively involved in scientific research. He currently works as a research assistant at the Femtosecond Optics Laboratory of the Institute of Electronics – BAS, contributing to the development of laser-based biomaterial modification techniques. His research focuses on the processing of biopolymers such as chitosan, collagen, and hydroxyapatite using a femtosecond laser to create functionalized bone implants. These implants are applied in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and implantology. Ivan collaborates with medical professionals, chemists, and physicists on innovative projects in the field of personalized medicine.
Interests: laser surface structuring, biomaterial biocompatibility, light–biomatter interactions
